You play as Jess, who goes to the retreat to help overcome shared trauma she had with her friend Kim when they were teenagers. Any positive feelings from the retreat are completely wiped out when a ritualistic chant goes wrong, resulting in the negative energy of a visiting group unleashing the Gloom, a dimension of cosmic fear. The protagonist comes at this plot of land in search of her parents. However, things take a terrible turn when cultists perform a ritual that opens a portal to another reality. The darkness, for that is the name of this reality, feeds on people’s bad energy, manifesting their fears and vulnerabilities as horrific animals. Our protagonist must defend herself against them, employing the tools of murder she fashions from the supplies she discovers along the way.
